About this project

The Linux kernel is the core of any Linux operating system: it manages hardware and system resources and provides the fundamental services that all other software relies on. Written primarily in C, with Assembly, Rust, Python and shell components, the source tree is developed openly by a large community coordinated through the kernel.org mailing lists. It is aimed at kernel developers, distribution maintainers, and anyone who wants to build, study, or contribute to the operating system that underpins Linux.
